Scholarship Guidelines
Scholarship
recipients are selected by the Distribution Committee in May of each
year. Scholarship funds must be returned to the Orange Foundation if
the student does not attend college the year the award was made. The
applicant must answer all application questions or be disqualified
from being considered for a scholarship award. The currently
established scholarships and their criteria are as follows: |

Charles L. Flynn
Scholarship Established
in 1976
“This scholarship will provide assistance towards room and board at the Undergraduate or Graduate school of
the student’s choice for the Regular school term.”
Harry Haynes
Scholarship Fund Established
in 1976
“This scholarship is designated for assistance to a student of Veterinary Medicine, either Graduate or
Undergraduate. If there is no applicant for the Veterinarian
Scholarship, the fund shall be available for a General Scholarship.”
Thomas
F. Birmingham, Jr. Scholarship Established
in 1981
“This scholarship is for a male or female recipient who is both an athlete and a scholar. The intended definition of a
scholar is an individual who maintains a B+ or higher average in his or her
senior year in High School. An athlete is one who has won one or more
letters in any varsity sport.”
William Knight
Scholarship Fund
Established in 1986
“A bi-annual
(even number years) scholarship award, with
selection based upon a combination of the student’s financial need,
scholastic record and service to the community. The latter criterion will
have the greatest emphasis in making the award.”
Vaughn Family
Scholarship
Established in 1988
“To provide
assistance towards tuition, board, etc., for an
undergraduate student in need of financial assistance in the top 25% of
his/her class.”
Elizabeth C. and John
W. Povilaitis Community Fund
Established in 1989
“To
provide scholarship assistance; medical research for heart disease,
hypertension or cancer; medical equipment for the
Orange nursing service; books for the library or services for the sick,
lame and elderly of Orange.”
Frank P. and Louise Horbal Tripp
Scholarship Fund Established
in 2006
“To
provide assistance to a student of Lithuanian or Ukrainian extraction who
is a resident of the Town
of
Derby or Ansonia.”
